Western Hemlock

Western Hemlock

A madman with a moustache started a war. The soldiers went to fight but the economists won the war, cranking up the production cycle all across the Northern Hemisphere. They dug up all the coal they could and they cut down all the trees in the wood. After the war, the soldiers wanted houses. So they planted trees, a thick screen of Western Hemlock alongside the new road. And now the hemlocks are reaching the end of their life. Many are rotten at the core and likely to fall without much warning. All of which makes a walk in the woods quite interesting.
