Headed South

Canada Geese

We don't really do wildfowl in VC55. The twitchers got twitchy last week when a Ruddy Duck turned up at Rutland Water, but it's hardly Norfolk. The Canada Geese never really go away, but in summer they do seem to go under the radar as the flocks split up to nest. And there seems to be one day every autumn when I become award of skeins of geese returning to the Soar Valley to spend the winter.

Canada Geese, Branta canadensis.
