Common Striped Woodlouse
I was never fortunate enough to meet Steve Hopkin although I was aware of his work. In the last year, his legacy seems to be inescapable and his status with me grows nearly every day. As the UK's leading expert on woodlice he took the somewhat heretical step for a zoologist to create vernacular names for eight common species because "These are more easily remembered by children who can graduate subsequently to the scientific names". A giant.
Common Striped Woodlouse, Philoscia muscorum.
