What fresh madness if this?

What fresh madness if this?

All my professional life I have worked with microscopes ranging in cost from £2000 to over £250,000 (not including the occasional dalliance with electron microscopy, most of which I've left to SWMBO). The past 40 years have taught me one thing - with microscopes, you pretty much get what you pay for. Personally, I've owned three microscopes. The first was bought for me by my parents when I was a child. It was rubbish, a waste of money and more likely to put someone off microscopy than to encourage them. The second was the one I bought for my children. It was rubbish, a waste of money and more likely to put someone off microscopy than to encourage them. I've just bought a microscope and it arrived today. It cost £100. What fresh madness if this?

Is it as good as a £2000 microscope? No, but when you strip out the stuff I haven't paid for (such as phase contrast optics), frankly I'm struggling to find the difference. So kudos to Apex microscopes, and let the madness begin. I don't know what Calvin Klein's obsession is but I think mine is pretty transparent.
